A raised Black Walnut serving board with darkened edges, visible wood plugs, and a design inspired by traditional Japanese sushi presentation.
This handcrafted sushi board draws inspiration from the Japanese geta, a raised wooden platform traditionally used to present sushi. The substantial Walnut top rests on short feet, elevating the food above the table and giving the board a strong architectural presence.
Yakisugi-style treatment darkens the edges, creating a striking contrast with the natural warmth of the Walnut. On the serving surface, carefully fitted wood plugs conceal the screws that secure the feet. They're a practical construction detail, but an attractive one, adding a subtle pattern that becomes part of the board's design.
At 16 inches long, the generous surface offers room for an arrangement of sushi and sashimi, but its usefulness extends well beyond Japanese cuisine. Consider it for small appetizers, carefully composed hors d'oeuvres, or any presentation that deserves a little elevation.
