Composition 363: Oceanscape

Sometimes a board begins to tell a story before the first cut is made.

Composition Board 359 combines walnut, white oak, maple, and figured maple in a landscape of color and grain. The figured maple flows across the board like water meeting the shore, creating a horizon that seems to shift with the light.

To complement the scene, a crescent moon is cut into one corner—a small detail that invites a second look and gives the piece a quiet sense of wonder.

Whether serving charcuterie, fresh fruit, pastries, or a simple evening snack, this board brings both beauty and function to the table.

Every board I make is one of a kind, shaped not only by design but by the character of the wood itself. Some pieces suggest movement. Some suggest texture. This one suggested a landscape.

After 40 years in professional kitchens, I've come to believe that some of life's best moments happen around a table. This board was made for those moments.
