Composition 464: Five-Wood Compact Prep + Travel Board

A compact working board with a few unexpected flashes of color.

I made this smaller board for the jobs that don't require a big cutting surface—chopping garlic and onions, quick prep, or even packing a real wood cutting board when you're traveling.

Board #464 brings together White Oak, Walnut, Osage Orange, Purpleheart and Maple. The lighter and darker woods establish the composition, while the Osage Orange and Purpleheart introduce small areas of stronger color.

One live edge adds an irregular natural line to a board that's otherwise deliberately composed.

At just 12 x 6.5 inches and 1.5 pounds, it's easy to grab, easy to store and small enough to pack.

What Makes This Board Different

There's a lot happening in a relatively small space.

White Oak, Walnut and Maple give the composition its foundation, while Osage Orange and Purpleheart add color that catches your eye without taking over the whole board. The live edge gives the opposite kind of detail—something dictated by the wood rather than arranged by me.

Care

Hand wash only with mild soap and warm water. Do not soak or place in the dishwasher. Dry promptly and allow the board to dry completely before storing.

A small tin of our Chefdude Board Butter is included with every board. Apply periodically to help condition and maintain the wood.
