A long composition of dark Walnut, warm Padauk, and light Maple—with the handle deliberately off-center.
Composition Board #239 brings together Walnut, Padauk, and Maple in a long serving board designed around contrast, proportion, and an unexpected silhouette.
The deeper tones of Walnut provide a strong counterpoint to the lighter Maple, while Padauk brings its naturally warmer color into the composition. Together, the three woods create distinct shifts in color and grain across the length of the board.
At one end, Frank added an offset handle rather than centering it on the board. It's a small shift from what you expect, but one that changes the personality of the entire piece.
And at 22 inches long, #239 gives the composition room to stretch out. It's a natural fit for serving bread, cheeses, charcuterie, appetizers, or anything that benefits from a longer presentation.

What Makes This Board Different
Three woods create the composition, but the offset handle changes how you see it.
Rather than finishing the board with a predictable centered handle, Frank shifted it to one side. That bit of asymmetry gives the board a more distinctive outline and makes the design feel less formal.
The wood combination works the same way.
Dark, light, warm. Each species brings something visibly different, and none needs to imitate the next.
The contrast happens in the wood. The personality comes from what Frank does with it.
At 22 inches long, it's a substantial serving board—but one designed to bring as much visual interest to the table as the food you put on it.
Made to be used. Made to be seen. Made with the wood as the starting point.
Care
Hand wash only with mild soap and warm water. Do not soak or place in the dishwasher. Dry promptly and allow the board to dry completely before storing. Periodic conditioning with a food-safe board oil will help maintain the wood.
