Seven different woods, composed into one small board.

Composition Board #427 brings together Purpleheart, White Oak, Maple, Walnut, Padauk, Peruvian Walnut, and Lacewood—seven species with distinctly different colors and grain.

In a board this size, every wood has to earn its place.

Light Maple and White Oak sit alongside the deeper tones of Walnut and Peruvian Walnut. Purpleheart and Padauk introduce stronger natural color, while Lacewood adds its own distinctive grain to the mix.

Rather than asking one species to carry the board, Frank built #427 around the variety itself—selecting and arranging woods so their differences become the design.

At 10" x 12.5", it's a small boule board sized nicely for slicing and serving a round loaf, but equally useful for cheese, fruit, crackers, appetizers, or a compact charcuterie spread.

What Makes This Board Different

Most of Frank's compositions ask you to notice the relationship between a few woods.

#427 gives you seven.

Some bring contrast. Some bring color. Some bring grain. Together, they turn a relatively small board into a composition with details you'll notice differently depending on where you look.

And that's the challenge with a board like this: not simply fitting seven species into the same piece, but deciding how seven very different woods should share the space.

Small board. Big composition.

Made to be used. Made to be seen. Made with the wood as the starting point.

Care

Hand wash only with mild soap and warm water. Do not soak or place in the dishwasher. Dry promptly and allow the board to dry completely before storing. Periodic conditioning with a food-safe board oil will help maintain the wood.
