Curly Figured Maple Live-Edge Cheese Board

Curling, spalting, and a natural live edge give this small Maple cheese board plenty of character without needing a complicated shape.

This serving board is made from Curly Spalted Maple, bringing together two very different kinds of movement in the same piece of wood.

The curling creates shifts in the grain that become more noticeable as the light moves across the surface, while the spalting adds darker lines and natural color variation through the Maple.

Frank kept one live edge along the side of the board, preserving the natural shape of the wood rather than cutting every edge into a uniform line.

A centered handle extends roughly 3–4" from the top, giving the board a simple, functional shape that's easy to carry and serve from.

At 16" x 8" overall, including the handle, it's a compact board with enough surface area for cheese, fruit, bread, appetizers, or a small charcuterie spread.

And along one side, Frank left the live edge intact.

That natural edge sits against the more deliberate shape of the board and its centered handle, allowing the original character of the Maple to remain part of the finished piece.

Care

Hand wash only with mild soap and warm water. Do not soak or place in the dishwasher. Dry promptly and allow the board to dry completely before storing. Periodic conditioning with a food-safe board oil will help maintain the wood.
