One piece of wood. Nothing pieced together. Nothing filled with epoxy.
This substantial chopping block was made from a single piece of spalted curly Maple, selected for its remarkable figure and chatoyancy — the shifting, almost three-dimensional effect that appears as light moves across the grain.
The sides received a yakisugi treatment, creating a dark, charred contrast against the lighter Maple and giving the block a distinctly sculptural profile. From above, the natural figure takes center stage. From the side, the charred edges change the character of the piece entirely.
At 1.6 inches thick and 5.5 pounds, this is a substantial working chopping block made to stay put on the counter. Rubber feet elevate and stabilize the piece while allowing the wood itself to remain the focus.
Made from one remarkable piece of wood, with no glue and no epoxy.
