Spalted Figured Maple Live-Edge Serving Board

Sometimes the wood decides it's going to be the whole show.

This is one of those pieces of Maple I didn't want to over-design.

It's both spalted and figured, with chatoyancy that seems to radiate down from the top of the board like rays of light. As you move around it, the figuring shifts with you, while the spalting adds another layer of lines and markings through the wood.

I kept one live edge and let the natural character of the Maple determine where your eye goes.

At 15.75 inches long, it can certainly hold a little cheese, bread or something good to share. But I'll admit this one leans more toward art than utility.

And I'm perfectly fine with that.

What Makes This Board Different

Look at it from one angle, then move.

The chatoyancy in the figured Maple catches the light differently as your viewing angle changes, creating the appearance of rays moving through the wood. Spalting adds its own irregular lines, and the live edge preserves one more element that I didn't have to invent.

There are times when making a board is about composing with several woods.

This one was about knowing when one piece of wood was enough.

Care

Hand wash only with mild soap and warm water. Do not soak or place in the dishwasher. Dry promptly and allow the board to dry completely before storing.

A small tin of our Chefdude Board Butter is included with every board. Apply periodically to help condition and maintain the wood.
